This project involves transforming an old tyre shop on the ground floor of a block of flats on a suburban allotment not far from Porto. It is once again an exercise around the possibility of a freer space: freed of obstacles or inflexible uses, in response to (or against) a conventional domestic layout. Infrastructural cores fix and hide what should remain invisible. An existing pillar is transformed into a column. Bedroom doors open onto communal spaces. Their opening system makes it possible for them to disappear completely, in order to recover the original generosity of the garage as found. Rooms merge into one another, allowing light and air to cross through the entire flat along a continuous yet meandering space.
