João Paupério (Valongo, 1992) & Maria Rebelo (Porto, 1991) are architects graduated from the University of Porto (FAUP).
They practice and write together, having been invited as lecturers or guest critics at various institutions such as FAUP (Porto), DAUE (Évora), the Philosophy Institute of NOVA University (Lisbon), the Architecture Department of ISCTE-IUL (Lisbon), Knowlton School of Architecture (Columbus), COAC (Barcelona), HSLU (Luzern), HEAD (Genève), ETH (Zürich) and the EPFL (Lausanne).
In April 2023, the first built work of atelier local (Studio House) was awarded an honourable mention (2nd place) in the first edition of the MGD Award, organised by Ordem dos Arquitectos. In 2024, House in Ancede was awarded the Forma Prize for Emerging Practices and nominated as finalist for the Iberian awards Arquia/Próxima, curated by Marina Otero Verzier.
In 2023, the first works of the atelier were published in the monographic issue of AMAG PT 04.
In 2024, they co-edited the book “Ceci n’est pas un portrait”. In the same year, they published the essay “atelier local : after five years of living”, edited by exemplo books.
In 2025, atelier local was recognized as one of the 20 studios selected for the Début Award of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.
